Mayflower – Aged Care & Retirement Village – Macleod

The Mayflower’s Macleod project is breaking new ground in the way contemporary aging in place is being offered to residents. It has been conceptualised as a contemporary and fully integrated aged care village, offering a range of assisted living options, centred around an expansive public plaza, and creating a cohesive new community.

The precinct takes cues from surrounding open spaces and parkland, proposing an urban environment without barriers to building a community supported by social connectedness and linkages. The village promotes ease of movement with cross-links throughout the site and beyond, connecting back to established pedestrian links, providing opportunities for social interactions between residents and the surrounding neighbourhoods.

The village consists of 47 houses, a 23-unit apartment building, a 72-bedroom aged care building and a community centre arrayed around a terraced central plaza, all sitting within a heavily treed landscape. Exterior built elements include seating, pergolas and  gazebos designed to invite residents to stop and inhabit the gardens, creating opportunities for interaction and activation of communal spaces.

The village will shape a new ungated environment which offers comfort, privacy and safety, with a design that considers views, aspect and solar orientation to create enhanced environments and support resident health and well-being.
